As a producer of five films to date, I am grateful that my position as a valued member of the National Council of the American Film Institute allows me to further my appreciation for this industry and take pride in the work of AFI as an organization.
Recently AFI announced a new film festival in collaboration with NBC News’ “Meet the Press with Chuck Todd” The festival will feature contemporary documentaries – 40 minutes in length or less – about policy and people with an emphasis on untold American stories found far from Washington and New York, telling stories from a “diversity of perspective” (meaning geographic, ideological, religious, cultural or racial diversity). I am proud to say that this festival will be held in Washington, D.C. this November, pairing NBC News’ political reporting and the historic AFI an institute established in 1967 after President Johnson’s mandate to bring “together leading artists of the film industry, outstanding educators and young men and women who wish to pursue the 20th-century art form as their life’s work.”
